patch wrt to the kmods intro & switching to latest

^Triage: rework patch to apply to current version of file.

I've done my best to follow the submitter's intent, but I can't guarantee it.

Unlike the submitter's patch, I left the quarterly-to-latest section in place
where it is.  However, I did make the changes to he that were requested.  This
makes the patch apply now.
