I just now happened upon:

https://letsencrypt.org/docs/certificate-compatibility/

and saw that FreeBSD isn't included in the lists of platforms that trust ISRG
Root X1/X2


The page states:

"If your platform is not listed here, we appreciate pull requests* that include
documentation of when each root was added to that platform’s trust store."
