So, for example, where
<https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/design-44bsd/#overview-facilities> states: 

> Sections 2.3 through 2.14 present introductory material related to 
> Chapters 3 through 14.

– those two sections, which did exist with those numbers in 
 
<https://docs-archive.freebsd.org/doc/4.4-RELEASE/usr/share/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/design-44bsd/>, 
  no longer exist with those numbers.

Gut feeling, without looking in detail: it may be simplest to take the earliest
archived copy of the chapter and introduction and place the content, unaltered,
in a 1996 area of <https://papers.freebsd.org/>. 

Either that, or create a redirect from
<https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/design-44bsd/> to the archived copy.
