Thinking about this some more:

I'm not sure if renaming future advisories will actually make it easier (or
possible) to work with our repository on Microsoft Windows.

Would changing the names of future advisories make any difference?  Won't git
simply stop working as soon as it encounters the first filename with a : in it?

Can this realistically be "fixed"?

Note that we cannot change the filenames of existing advisories -- that would
break uncountable links to them.
