It's not like everyone fully adopted ISO 8601 form the 80s and lives = by it or else they wouldn't be upset with things like: zfs snapshot -r tank@`date -u "+%Y%m%dT%H%M%SZ"` for reasons other than I left out the dashes and colons (guess I could add fractional second too).
