The first sentence seems not quite right. As far as I can tell (from the manual
page, and from various examples across the web), the separator can be either: 

* a whitespace; or 
* a comma followed by whitespace.

Second sentence, a field (singular) may: 

* be a wildcard (singular)
* not contain wildcards.
