If I understand correctly, EPUB® was not a focus area around the time of
transition.
Realistically: I don't foresee anyone spearheading what's necessary to
reimplement conversions to EPUB, in the near future. With some reluctance, I'll
close this report. Keyword:

– and reduction in severity, to the norm for a feature request.
