while open, seems to be winding down with "seems OK as is?" I would like to suggest that there are a few UX tweaks that should be considered as essential for a success status.

AS A sighted user
I WANT HDMI auxiliary screen to come online as part of my desktop OR neatly revert to laptop-only experience /automatically/
SO THAT I can leverage hardware workstations OR laptop portability

Current State:

Right now I have a persistent polling shell script launched via .xinitrc testing, via xrandr(1) whether I have attached an HDMI monitor (background: using i915kms).

From the issue, it seems some utilities offer similar control (xrandr wrapping, I guess?)Nicer: Hook into devd

Proposals:
Nicest: Magically do the right thing a la OSX, Win32
Nicer: Hook into devd so my shell script can run based on events
