So the problem would be that 2.17.1,1 grabs dmenu/dwm somehow (behavior change
here), previously those were unaffected by BITMAPS=off. 

And setting globally BITMAPS=on makes a lot of sites ugly (while web browser
can force the same font regardless, that is not really a solution).
