To get a side-by-side view of outputs from env, and so on. I reckon, the most surprising thing (from the perspective of a newcomer to the installer) is, the live system is so constrained that desirable commands such as pkg can not be used to try software that does not require a GUI. From my more experienced perspective: the inability to install lynx is sometimes a show-stopper. A network connection without Internet service is quite useless, and – in the environment where I most often need a live system – I can not gain Internet service without first using a web browser to authenticate. (Did a developer recently write about walled garden-like scenarios? I lost track of where I read it, sorry.) ---- The shell and live system aside: recent improvements to the installer are _very_ noticeable. Thanks to everyone involved.
