Thanks for the explanation.
Hardware is a HP Proliant Gen8. There's 2* xenon E5-2690 v2 @ 3.00GHz.
SHT is turned off (so there are 20 cores not 40).

The netifs on the motherboard are bxe0 and bxe1. bxe0 isn't plugged into
anything right now.

doas dmesg | ug bxe0

Not sure about SR-IOV. How can I check?

# ifconfig bxe0
bxe0: flags=8802<BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
         options=527bb<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,JUMBO_MTU,VLAN_HWCSUM, \
         TSO4,TSO6,LRO,WOL_MAGIC,VLAN_HWFILTER,VLAN_HWTSO>
         ether re:da:cd:ed
         media: Ethernet autoselect (none)
         status: no carrier
         nd6 options=829<PERFORMNUD,IFDISABLED,AUTO_LINKLOCAL,STABLEADDR>

yes, am using bhyve hypervisor for some freebsd guests, an openbsd one, a netbsd one
and also ubuntu. Yes, I also need network isolation (to the extent that each vm
has its own IP. some have real IPs, others are in private ip ranges).

Thanks for answering,
