Bug ID: 299693
Summary: freebsd-update silently installed some unexpected real
files in /etc/ssl/certs
Product: Base System
Version: 14.4-RELEASE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: ---
Component: bin
Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org
Reporter: martin@lispworks.com
When trying to update from 14.4-RELEASE-p11 to 14.4-RELEASE-p12 using
freebsd-update, this was included in the output:
The following files are affected by updates. No changes have
been downloaded, however, because the files have been modified
locally:
/etc/ssl/certs/2ccbdda3.0
/etc/ssl/certs/30e1580d.0
/etc/ssl/certs/36c6b318.0
/etc/ssl/certs/422cf4bf.0
/etc/ssl/certs/6805c744.0
/etc/ssl/certs/9cd9d94b.0
/etc/ssl/certs/9e654b62.0
/etc/ssl/certs/b0d5255e.0
/etc/ssl/certs/f44703f1.0
/etc/ssl/certs/faf4fe6b.0
These are real files, not symlinks like everything else in /etc/ssl/certs.
Based on the ctimes of these files, they were all changed when the machine was
updated from 14.4-RELEASE-p10 to 14.4-RELEASE-p11 using freebsd-update on
2026-10-20. However, they are not listed in the output from this update and I
don't know whether they there prior to that update.
A second machine that was also updated to 14.4-RELEASE-p11 doesn't have these
files and they are listed as being added as part of updating to
14.4-RELEASE-p12.
