Bug ID: 299277
Summary: Recording monitor broken (monitor as in audio out)
Product: Base System
Version: 15.1-RELEASE
Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: ---
Component: kern
Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org
Reporter: dave@daveg.ca
Let's get terms out of the way first. I'm trying to record what I would
otherwise hear. This is the monitor audio.
When I try to use the obvious tools, like audacity or sox, it fails. In an
interesting contrast, OBS works. It works in it's default configuration and it
works specifying my /dev/dsp1 (which is an output-only optical out).
My setup: FreeBSD-15.1p4, amd64. 64G ram.

... so recording from /dev/dsp1 works from OBS, fails from sox and audacity.
[1:14:314]dgilbert@hit:~/aircheck> sox -r 48k -b 16 -v 0.99 -t oss /dev/dsp1 -t
wav out.wav
sox FAIL formats: can't open input `/dev/dsp1': open failed for device:
/dev/dsp1
I try virtual_oss with the following and I get a file of 0 values.
virtual_oss -Q 0 -C 2 -c 2 -r 48000 -b 16 -s 1024 -P /dev/dsp1 -R /dev/null -w
vdsp.wav -l dsp
