Yes, I have noticed some shortcomings of dma(8) myself.

But our default /etc/mail/mailer.conf points to dma(8), so I find it reasonable
to expect our rc scripts to be POLA compliant with that.

Just hanging startup with no diagnostics, because a common rc.conf content is
not supported by dma(8) seems below POLA for me.
