I believe that the behavior you see is undefined. I have tried dma(8) and was
not fully convinced espcially because aliases and GECOS resolution are
incomplete/non-existing.

If you want to run dma(8) mailer.conf isn't enough, sendmail_enable="NONE"
needs to be set.

I guess you expect a crosscheck from the RC script to mailer.conf.
