BTW, if we add this feature to fetch, then it will enable a nice new feature in
ports.  We'll be able to fetch ports from private Github and Gitlab repos with
no annoying hacks.

(I'm not volunteering to add it, though.  But if somebody else adds the feature
to fetch(1), then I am volunteering to do the ports part).
