Bug ID: 288146
Summary: console (vty) settings in loader.conf not working
Product: Base System
Version: 14.3-RELEASE
Hardware: amd64
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Many People
Priority: ---
Component: conf
Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org
Reporter: michael.hmich@gmail.com
this is not about X, it is about freebsd boot console
since 14.x I have serious problems configuring the boot conole settings
I used the same settings in 13.x and it worked just fine in 1280 and 1920px
width, I uses gallant font in 8x12
the hardware is not the problem, setting vty to sc when using vidcontrol -i
mode shows all modes available but I can not set them, whatever I do the boot
appears in the traditional 100y old 640x480 giant letters
I can not even set the keymap, whether in rc.conf or in loader.conf
I can use vidcontrol to set kbdmap or certain available fonts, but makes no
sense when I have to type the configurations
I have vesa mode set in device.hints, but it really doesn't matter
I also tried using just the native VESA instead of loading nvidia, using vt
instead of sc makes all worse because I can't set nothing from the prompt
if I set manually vga_800x600 and then another font I get at least a more
aprropriate output, but also makes no sense when I have to do it manually
the important thing is that the boot shows up in smaller fonts on at least 1280
wide screen resolution
I have tried all known (to me) loader.conf options to set the screen
resolution, font size and kbdmap and it just doesn't work
please don't tell my to try settings, I've done it in excess with 14.1,2 and
now 3, what I need is a real working solution, I need a readable console output
during the boot process
thanks
