Before I forget (note to self): 

grahamperrin:~ % echo $SHELL
/bin/tcsh
grahamperrin:~ % file ~/.history
/home/grahamperrin/.history: ASCII text
grahamperrin:~ % 

So, after entering my password at the command line: 

1. exit from all shells where I am grahamperrin

2. root user edition of /home/grahamperrin/.history 
   to cut two relevent lines.
