Bug ID: 283770
Summary: loader.efi won't find installation in specific
conditions
Product: Base System
Version: 14.2-RELEASE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Some People
Priority: ---
Component: misc
Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org
Reporter: rah@tokiwadai.org
If you install FreeBSD at the end of a storage device (only tested NVMEs, but I
don't think it should matter), e.g.
You already have a Windows or Linux install ->
efi_partition
other_os
And then add
freebsd_home /home
freebsd_swap
freebsd_base /
(making sure FreeBSD also shares the EFI partition)
The installation happens correctly, but loader.efi isn't able to find the
FreeBSD install to boot of until you specifically point the correct disk at
loader.env with rootdev. This bug doesn't happen if FreeBSD is installed first.
