One more update for today: I let the rsync processes go today for longer than
usual. This lead to the freeze, but for some reason the watchdog wasn't
triggering a reboot. I could ping the box but not log into it. My top and
iostat processes were still running, but I couldn't ctrl-c out of them. It
appears all disk activity was completely seized up. I had to reboot, and did so
into 14.2.
