This a snippet of my .tcsh on my old Laptop Acer Aspire 5642G:

bindkey "^W" backward-delete-word
bindkey "\e[3~" delete-char
bindkey -k up history-search-backward
bindkey -k down history-search-forward
endif
...
My old solution to avoid '~'.
