What is wrong is likely the label "bytes".
Here's a sample output from vmstat -z --libxo json (formatted for clarity):

"free" : 0,
"limit" : 0,
"name" : "buffer arena-20",

"size" : 1360,
"sleep" : 0,
"used" : 69,

},
So I use the 'used' field. If the units are not in bytes, then I was ignorant
of that. What unit is the 'used' field using?
