For what's described: without a bug number, it might be impossible for me to
tell.

13.1 fixed a bug that involved soft updates _without_ soft update journaling:
<https://www.freebsd.org/releases/13.1R/relnotes/#storage-ufs>

<https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/config/#soft-updates> recommends
soft updates. If there's no explicit recommendation to also enable soft update
journaling, this could be because (bug 261944) there's not yet, in the
Handbook, a suitable explanation of the feature.

tunefs(8)
<https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=tunefs&sektion=8&manpath=FreeBSD>
for FreeBSD 13.1-RELEASE lacks a recently added explanation, you can gain this
by switching the online view of the manual page to FreeBSD 14.0-CURRENT.
