I added the requested attachments.  Let me know what else you need.

The problem appears to exist with audio-only but not nearly as frequently
(including streaming audio from an icecast server).  I have also observed it
while playing a video game (prboom).

By request I played one video that exhibited problems without powerd running,
and it appeared to play correctly.  I shall attempt to confirm using multiple
video and audio files with and without powerd running at all, and add the
results to this bug report if it is at least somewhat conclusive.  I shall also
attempt to repro this from the command line without the X server running (audio
only) to see how powerd affects it.
