            Bug ID: 263020
           Summary: nvidia-driver-390
           Product: Base System
           Version: 13.1-STABLE
          Hardware: amd64
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Many People
          Priority: ---
         Component: kern
          Assignee: bugs@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: michael.hmich@gmail.com

the reason for this report is the Geforde GT7xx cards which are like it is are
NOT supported anymore, this card is not so old and it is still globally on the
market as a good low budget card

so everything I report is regarding this cards

the nvidia-driver-390-144 was good until 13-RELEASE and still the first
13-STABLE kernel, but then it didn't load anymore

the xf86-video-driver-nv I guess is build on the latest or newer versions and
also does not work

the nvidia-driver-390-147 is the driver which is supporting the 7xx cards
even if it is listed in supported cards on the other nvidia-drivers, several
reports to NVIDIA didn't correct this error

the linux situation was similar but there are working patches for using the
driver with newer kernels

"now" (since dec-21) is out the nvidia-driver-390-147 which supports newer
linux kernels and should also address the FreeBSD problem in this sense,
unfortunately the driver does not compile or install on 13-STABLE or
13.1-STABLE even if it is a orignal nvidia driver, it is on NVDIA's official
FreeBSD support page: NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86_64-390.147.tar.gz

the compile error appearently comes from the freeBSD sources
I have pulled a new src tree, the kernel compiles fine but nvidia not

I think this card must be still supported and no only as legit nvidia-driver
but also with xf86-video-nv

thanks
