Thank you very much for your interest in mpd5. This question has already been raised before. There are several reasons why mpd5 is not in base system. First, development of mpd5 is not synchronized with development of FreeBSD. Not every mpd5 developer is FreeBSD committer, too. Also, we try to maintain mpd5 compatibility with older versions of FreeBSD, including FreeBSD versions went EoL, so mpd5 can be built and used with old= er FreeBSD versions and this differs from support policy of FreeBSD Project itself. Also, mpd5 package is readily available for supported FreeBSD versions and = its BSD license allows one to integrate the package to any installation media. Last but not least, it is known that derivative projects like pfSense/OPNSense/etc. build mpd5 package with their own set of additional patches and that might conflict with base system mpd5, if it would exist.
