Hi Zsolt,
I didn’t remove the WWW [yet] because Nuno (eduardo@) prefers to keep his WWW. Robert C. (fuz@) and I discussed it and rather than force the removal on others, we would first approach portmgr about the idea.
At the very least, we endeavor to at first bring all the old deprecated URLs up to date with the current URL requirements for CRAN objects.
Obviously, some R-cran-* ports do not reference CRAN directly, nearly 100 ports (out of about 400) pointing instead at a non-CRAN source URL (be it GitHub or some other vendor source).
Thanks for taking the initiative to remove WWW from your ports. I too have been omitting WWW from my own R-cran-* ports.
I tried to convince Nuno that you can always just use `make -VWWW` to get the value in-lieu of being able to `grep WWW Makefile`, but he remained unconvinced. In the eyes of Nuno, all ports should have WWW lines in their Makefiles. I told him that USE_GITHUB and USES= pear ports also can opt for a Uses/*.mk default, but he continued to remain unconvinced. So I threw up my hands and gave up on trying to convince him. For now, I just make sure that I don’t remove WWW from any of his/her ports.
