these two commands are failing, as the extension is now .pkg, maybe we 
should change it to:

# tar xf postgresql12-server-12.8.pkg -C /tmp/pg-upgrade
# tar xf postgresql12-contrib-12.8.pkg -C /tmp/pg-upgrade
