It helped me quite a bit over the years - even around things that *I* had 
done myself six, twelve, eighteen months earlier. :-) And it can be all 
the more useful if it's someone else's work or port.

In this concrete case a comment is not necessary any longer: my patch 
landed upstream yesterday, so we/you can drop it with the next snapshot.
