I think better to use (for example):
MAKE_ARGS+=    PREFIX=${PREFIX} MANDIR=${PREFIX}/share/man
instead of:
MAKE_ARGS=     PREFIX=${PREFIX} MANDIR=${STAGEDIR}${PREFIX}/share/man
