PREVIOUSLY_DELIVERED(0.00)[freebsd-current@freebsd.org]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; DKIM_TRACE(0.00)[ketas.si.pri.ee:+] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4d37Js4kTbz4Gq4 i like to report that i also have a low mem machine, 4g and i recently just gave up on jobs=2E so i set ports, poudriere and build= worlds and whatevers just to 1 i have more i want to run in that machine and this is just exhausting all = the ram=2E there's also zfs which seems to mysteriously fail here if multip= le jobs happen tmpfs is also never used so idea to run 2* cores/threads doesn't always help=2E sure, if it's pure = cpu bound it helps=2E but if things start to allocate memory, in parallel, = it sucks=2E at worst it fails, at best it just keeps moving pages to disk a= nd back=2E resulting activity causes every benefit to become lost, it could= even get worse also, if you overload the cpus, where do the other tasks go? machine still= has to perform supporting tasks, read and write files, etc=2E it isn't jus= t compiling so in low power machines, not all those options make sense=2E in 3 figure = gigabyte ram machines, yes=2E machines can do >1t now too=2E there it matte= rs unfortunately i also made smaller builds slower as there is no way to dyna= mically adjust jobs depending how much it speeds up or slows down=2E eg ram= use maybe there could be dynamic option here=2E if system detects that build j= obs are likely to completely crap out the machine, it could just tune them = down=2E this also matters in some of those superservers=2E if thing is smal= l, it buils hyperfast, if big, it builds fast or normal i have no idea how to implement that=2E i just have idea
