I flashed several LSI MegaRAID 9211-8i from IR to IT mode without problem.
LSI / Broadcom provides the needed files to perform this.
Of course, as any other firmware flash, the procedure is not without any risk (to brick the card).
But conscientiously done, should be OK :)
