Re ZoL comment #43, the unlinked check was removed in
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/commit/987014903f9d36783547188b6ad00f01d9a076bd

The check apparently caused some issues with xattr functionality, not sure that
applies in FreeBSD but this loop is still happening in ZoL potentially looks
like.

Should we just try limiting the number of retries in there?
