Well, it's just very counter-intuitive (for someone who is not deeply familiar
with buffer cache, like me) that the default (and, in fact, the only) behaviour
for a failed _synchronous_ request is retry.  I mean, I've got the error, I
might have acted on it, I even might get surprised if the data gets written
later.

But this is buffer cache, so I will just shut up.
