ZFS: .eli based vdevs labeling

please advise

NEEDED: 
for several disk controllers to get zpool of raidzX vdevs, each one on
.eli providers

QUESTION:
what is the most "correct" way to get labels for .eli based devices to
be used further in zpool?

is it to:
gpart create -s gpt daXX.eli
gpart add -t freebsd-zfs -l cMdN daXX.eli
?
