Okay, went one further, and rebooted the server, mounted file system and ran test .. this way, all caches cleared … ran faster this time: 

JBoss AS 7.1.1.Final "Brontes" started in 32727ms

Will work on the rest over the weekend … have to get to a function at daughters school …
