Thanks for taking the time to chat with me about this on IRC. As a
result of our discussion I am withdrawing my request for you to back
this code out.

Meanwhile, for future reference, when someone asks you to hold off on
committing something and to explore other options first what we have
done in the past is NOT to go ahead and commit the code anyway, then
initiate a discussion about possible modifications. It's a matter of
respect, and good committer relations. And yes, you can laugh all you
want about me being the one to point this out, but that doesn't
invalidate my point.
