Either way, I don't think that mod_perl should drive FreeBSD's ports architecture decisions anymore. It would be a shame for FreeBSD to set 5.22 as the default, and not be able to change it to 5.24 until it becomes unsupported in two years.

The commit log reflects only the release notes!
I'm having already a report that an older mod_perl2(-rc) and perl5.24.1 is running without issues and that's why the perl version check was removed again in r423213.

Sorry, at the moment I don't have the time to test mod_perl2 against every perl version in the portstree (running against some test applications, and not only running mod_perl2 tests in poudriere)
