FreeBSD DomU: Upgrade from 7.2 to 8.0

Thanks for clarifying this.

So good news is: i don't need to install a XEN-Kernel. Bad news:  
GENERIC won't boot out of the box.

My provider is using XEN 3.3.1 - are there any known problems?

I have to ask my provider for that.

After a litte digging i also found the configuration for a XENHVM- 
Kernel:

   /usr/src/sys/amd64/conf/XENHVM

Is this one maybe worth a try?
