Maybe, yes. Try to build xorg-server 1.14 with no backend for instance.

I'm also interested in your Xorg.log from xserver 1.14 built with devd.

You can do:
  cd /path/to/ports/tree
  patch -p1 < /path/to/ports-xserver-1.16.patch
