Loading i915 module panics my system after patching with Intel GPU patch 14.4 for stable/9

Speaking of 14.4 on 9-STABLE (with GM45 however), 
since KMS patches it appears to me that monitor 
brightness is not preserved between turning of idling 
display.

To be precise it always "wakes" at full brightness, 
however adjusting one level down, drops to what 
appears to be the original brightness level minus one
(not maximal).

Given the convoluted behaviour, low impact and
all possibilities of interaction between acpi (?)
and laptop hardware (as adjusting brightness 
works independent from OS too, Thinkpad T400
BTW), I'm not holding my breath ;)
