Very bad performance with nvidia-driver

Ok, this turned out to be the crucial step - I have now installed it
by modifying the port Makefile instead of installing it by hand and
apparently it works - nvidia-settings now shows 270.41.06 as the
driver version.

However, it has not helped performance at all.
