No, it gives the same result... Actually, what I normally try is just running 
startx, which with the VESA driver just gives me the standard twm desktop with 
three xterms, but with intel there really is just a black screen. And yes, the 
log doesn't seem to indicate any error (to me, at least), which is what 
stumped me too :)
