Here are the results:
1. disabling drm
The problem still exists. When I ran startx, the console completely
hangs up. No remote login, all I could do was to press reset switch.
I have no set up serial console for this 8-current box, and I cannot
see any debug messages.
2. kldload mga and setting hw.dri.0.debug=1
X lockup still occurs, but I can login via ssh.
