For my 550, I had to use version 1.9.100 of the driver. Use
portsdowngrade or edit your ports-supfile to add
"date=2008.01.01.00.00.00" to the 'tag=." line. Then
csup -i ports/x11-drivers/xf86-video-mga SUPFILE

Once that is done, upgrade the port. I also have Warren Block's patch to
get the HAL to load in my xorg-server port.

NOTE: I am not running HEAD on any of my system ATM, so this is
untested. It works fine on 7-STABLE.
