Bug in mkfontscale

Sorry to send this mail off-list.
The attached mail is getting no reaction on the list.
In the meantime, I've generated, upon the advice of an
off-list reply, truss.out files on the bad machine and on
my good one. Both boxes are in fact desktops configured
with the same OS.

As I feel unable to interpret the differences, I'd like to 
ask you whether you could have a look at the files.

Pardon me if I equally join the bzip2'ed versions already.
