Xorg 8.9.0 "radeon" with DRI hangs FreeBSD-6.1, OK without DRI

I think I spoke prematurely. I was running the DRI-disabled server
for a couple hours and then it hung FreeBSD hard. I think I was going
to a page in Mozilla which had some image on it.  Other pages with
images rendered OK, but this one hung it.  So it appears commenting
out "dri" isn't a complete solution.
