no /dev/vga on FreeBSD-6.x ?

Last time I checked, the '/dev/vga' error was actually a bug in the X 
server, which means to print a different error: that '/dev/mem' is 
missing.  Likely, your kernel is compiled without "device mem", which is a 
standard option in GENERIC.
