All onboard peripherals work fine. I have tested the following peripherals SATA with AHCI enabled. Note that SATA DVD burners do not seem to work. USB using the USB2 stack. UMASS and FTDI serial adapters work. Firewire with an external HDD enclosure. The onboard re0 ethernet controller. The onoard HDA sound controller (had to add hw.snd.default_unit=2 to /etc/sysctl.conf). I've only used the headphone output. The onboard graphics using xf86-video-ati-6.9.0. I have 6GB of memory installed and am using ZFS. root:ernst:~:bash:8> pciconf -lv hostb0@pci0:0:0:0: class=0x060000 card=0x96001022 chip=0x96001022 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI pcib1@pci0:0:1:0: class=0x060400 card=0x96021022 chip=0x96021022 rev=0x00 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI pcib2@pci0:0:10:0: class=0x060400 card=0x96001022 chip=0x96091022 rev=0x00 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI atapci0@pci0:0:17:0: class=0x010601 card=0xb0021458 chip=0x43911002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = mass storage subclass = SATA ohci0@pci0:0:18:0: class=0x0c0310 card=0x50041458 chip=0x43971002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = serial bus subclass = USB ohci1@pci0:0:18:1: class=0x0c0310 card=0x50041458 chip=0x43981002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = serial bus subclass = USB ehci0@pci0:0:18:2: class=0x0c0320 card=0x50041458 chip=0x43961002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = serial bus subclass = USB ohci2@pci0:0:19:0: class=0x0c0310 card=0x50041458 chip=0x43971002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = serial bus subclass = USB ohci3@pci0:0:19:1: class=0x0c0310 card=0x50041458 chip=0x43981002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = serial bus subclass = USB ehci1@pci0:0:19:2: class=0x0c0320 card=0x50041458 chip=0x43961002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = serial bus subclass = USB none0@pci0:0:20:0: class=0x0c0500 card=0x43851458 chip=0x43851002 rev=0x3a hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' device = 'IXP SB600 SMBUS Controller' class = serial bus subclass = SMBus atapci1@pci0:0:20:1: class=0x01018a card=0x50021458 chip=0x439c1002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = mass storage subclass = ATA hdac1@pci0:0:20:2: class=0x040300 card=0xa1021458 chip=0x43831002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' device = 'IXP SB600 High Definition Audio Controller' class = multimedia subclass = HDA isab0@pci0:0:20:3: class=0x060100 card=0x43831002 chip=0x439d1002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = bridge subclass = PCI-ISA pcib3@pci0:0:20:4: class=0x060401 card=0x00000000 chip=0x43841002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' device = 'IXP SB600 PCI to PCI Bridge' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI ohci4@pci0:0:20:5: class=0x0c0310 card=0x50041458 chip=0x43991002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = serial bus subclass = USB hostb1@pci0:0:24:0: class=0x060000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x11001022 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)' device = '(K8) Athlon 64/Opteron HyperTransport Technology Configuration' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI hostb2@pci0:0:24:1: class=0x060000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x11011022 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)' device = '(K8) Athlon 64/Opteron Address Map' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI hostb3@pci0:0:24:2: class=0x060000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x11021022 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)' device = '(K8) Athlon 64/Opteron DRAM Controller' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI hostb4@pci0:0:24:3: class=0x060000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x11031022 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)' device = '(K8) Athlon 64/Opteron Miscellaneous Control' class = bridge subclass = HOST-PCI vgapci0@pci0:1:5:0: class=0x030000 card=0xd0001458 chip=0x96101002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = display subclass = VGA hdac0@pci0:1:5:1: class=0x040300 card=0x960f1458 chip=0x960f1002 rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies Inc' class = multimedia subclass = HDA re0@pci0:2:0:0: class=0x020000 card=0xe0001458 chip=0x816810ec rev=0x02 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Realtek Semiconductor' device = 'RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC' class = network subclass = ethernet fwohci0@pci0:3:14:0: class=0x0c0010 card=0x10001458 chip=0x8024104c rev=0x00 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Texas Instruments (TI)' device = 'TSB43AB23 1394a-2000 OHCI PHY/link-layer Controller' class = serial bus subclass = FireWire dmesg output Copyright (c) 1992-2008 The FreeBSD Project. From kdika at shaw.ca Mon Dec 1 06:05:59 2008 From: kdika at shaw.ca (Kevin Dika) Date: Mon Dec 1 06:06:21 2008 Subject: cannot register to your community site Message-ID: <000001c953ba$018f22b0$04ad6810$@ca> Hello there, I was wanted to register to your community site, and was not able to, due to the image verification icon not appearing on my web browser (IE 7) Since my computer duel boots, I was able to check both my vista and xp browsers and was still not able to log in to your site. I will now check at work to ensure this isn't one of my systems and will get back to you. Thank you. Kevin. P.S. I was hoping to ask the question that if FreeBSD is for me. (I realize that you might not answer this question, and that is fine. No hurt in asking, right?) I have tried other Linux distros like SME, ClackConnect, etc. (Realizing that FreeBSD is not a Linux distro) Here is my hardware Sun Microsystems Motherboard with a Xeon processor at 2.4 512 Ram 1 Matrox hard drive 80 gig 1 WD hard drive 80 gig 1 Matrox hard drive 120 gig Onboard Gig LAN card 3Com LAN card Here is idea system ISP --->Server (FreeBDS) ----> DD-WRT Wireless Router/Switch-----> LAN (had a huge problem trying to get my DD-WRT to work as a Switch rather than a Router) Here is what I current have setup ISP----> DD-WRT Wireless Router (With NAT) ------> LAN with Server (ClackConnect under DMZ) Is what I like to do. Run the Server similar to a company setup. . Email, Share Drives, Proxy server, Print Server, Firewall, NAT, etc . Raid 1 - Simple Mirror the two 80, with the 120 as a Spare for extra file sharing etc. . Webserver - PHP (Even thou I have really no idea how it works etc), Forums, etc . Ventrilo and TeamSpeak support . External USB Backup . Remote Desktop access (VPN possible), but I am able to access my computer through DD-WRT And I think that's it. Realizing that I don't expect any of the Distro to do this for me, but if the How Tos are clean and for anyone with little or no experience in Linux (I have some experience with Dos, ah the good old days) than I am more than willing to do it myself. (I find most of the How Tos very focused on experience Linux users) I am just trying to ensure that I have a secure webserver. I use links often on http://www.FreeBSD.org to test my changes and so I'm not sure what the complaint is. I can navigate fine with the arrow keys between the different sections of the web site. We'd certainly like to be very links friendly, but in this day and age that means degrading gracefully when javascript is not present of course, not disabling it completely. - Murray From murray at stokely.org Sun Dec 14 16:50:10 2008 From: murray at stokely.org (Murray Stokely) Date: Sun Dec 14 16:50:21 2008 Subject: www/129401: FreeBSD Multimedia page should automatically pick up YouTube videos from 'bsdconferences' channel Message-ID: <200812150050.mBF0o9nb056315@freefall.freebsd.org> The following reply was made to PR www/129401; it has been noted by GNATS. For one thing, we need If-Modified-Since: support added to fetch(1) so that we can easily check RSS feeds in the web build without overloading web servers. This is addressed in this PR : http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=bin/87841 Then we need to decide on a standard way for the web build to cache content from other web servers between builds. I propose storing downloaded RSS feeds in $TMPDIR/webbuild so that the downloaded feeds persist between builds (e.g., we can't keep it in $OBJDIR or make clean will wipe it out) but not between reboots. We can then call fetch with the new -i argument added by the patch in that PR to only download the content if the remote RSS file is newer than the cached version in $TMPDIR/webbuild. The rest is just simple XSLT/Makefile glue to actually parse and include dynamic content from external RSS feeds to our website. This may make sense for Flickr, YouTube, Yahoo Upcoming, or other services. - Murray On Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 1:10 PM, Murray Stokely wrote: > >>Number: 129401 >>Category: www >>Synopsis: FreeBSD Multimedia page should automatically pick up YouTube videos from 'bsdconferences' channel >>Confidential: no >>Severity: non-critical >>Priority: medium >>Responsible: freebsd-www >>State: open >>Quarter: >>Keywords: >>Date-Required: >>Class: change-request >>Submitter-Id: current-users >>Arrival-Date: Wed Dec 03 21:20:00 UTC 2008 >>Closed-Date: >>Last-Modified: >>Originator: Murray Stokely >>Release: N/A >>Organization: > FreeBSD Project >>Environment: > N/A >>Description: > We have a new YouTube Channel for BSD content. Google Analytics is based on the Urchin product that we used previously before it was acquired by Google, but just entails us adding a javascript ping to the bottom of pages instead of analyzing http logs. This has the advantage of providing information about screen resolution and other details not possible to collect from httpd access logs. It also provides a much more detailed analysis of trends that allow you to drill down to different geographic regions, to see the most popular search terms that allow users to get to our site, where users lose interest in the site, etc.. Please speak up here if you have concerns about moving to Google Analytics to provide better web usage statistics. The english events show up and are linked properly, but most translations show the fist few events from the english events.xml file but then try to link to non-existant localized versions of these files. hrs@ or blackend@ would be the best to look at and resolve this PR I think. - Murray From bugmaster at FreeBSD.org Mon Dec 29 03:07:04 2008 From: bugmaster at FreeBSD.org (FreeBSD bugmaster) Date: Mon Dec 29 03:09:29 2008 Subject: Current problem reports assigned to freebsd-www@FreeBSD.org Message-ID: <200812291107.mBTB740K024625@freefall.freebsd.org> Note: to view an individual PR, use: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=(number). The Web interface offers the following instructions for uploading a patch. And/or patch file (100KB max, .txt extension recommended): The word "recommendation" implies that it's not strictly required. I ignored the recommendation, and listed my patch as it existed. (I knew durn well that the committer would have to rename it to the name I gave it, anyway.) The submission was rejected because the patch did not have the extension .txt. I do not object to this behavior, but I would suggest that the word "recommended" be changed to "required." Of course, I stumbled over this less than a month after (willingly) relenquishing my doc commit bit... figures. >How-To-Repeat: Go to http://www.freebsd.org/send-pr.html. Try to submit a PR with a patch with a name such as patch-bin_flow-rptfmt While this (or something much like it) is how the file name will appear when committed, send-pr.html rejected it. Had it said "required," I would have changed the file name before even trying to submit. >Fix: Change "recommended" to "required," perhaps listing any other types that the script will take. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From remko at FreeBSD.org Wed Dec 31 08:04:09 2008 From: remko at FreeBSD.org (remko@FreeBSD.org) Date: Wed Dec 31 08:04:15 2008 Subject: www/130070: change wording of 'submit a PR' page Message-ID: <200812310804.mBV848k7075184@freefall.freebsd.org> Synopsis: change wording of 'submit a PR' page State-Changed-From-To: open->closed State-Changed-By: remko State-Changed-When: Wed Dec 31 08:04:08 UTC 2008 State-Changed-Why: Committed.
