uslcom drops chars(?) when used with hub

You can try:
sysctl hw.usb.uslcom.debug=15
What does usbconfig say about your device when you use the HUB and without
HUB?
Also check the version history for /sys/dev/usb/serial/uslcom.c at
freebsd.org.
